Michelena is a Memoir Mosaicist; infusing themes of belonging, time, and memory into her work. The physical act of gathering and collecting is deeply rooted in her practice, and her projects bring together objects, artifacts and experience. Her identity as a Mother, Connector and Storyteller infuse her practice with deep reverence for the natural world and the human impulse to make meaning from fragments - of life, sentiment, and place. An entrepreneurial spirit with community at the heart of her intentions, Michelena ran a vibrant community art studio in her hometown of Calgary, Alberta for several years and founded many nature and creative based initiatives and offerings. A dual citizen now based between Australia and Canada, she works globally as a communications coordinator for an online mosaic art academy and facilitates at international retreats while expanding her personal fine art practice. Michelena has an ability to weave her visionary creativity, and dedication to service, leaving meaningful imprints in collaborative communities wherever she goes.
