Winter skies in the Midwest can be the most dramatic of the year. This work, Winter Reflections, was inspired by seeing a gorgeous winter sky at dusk, reflected on a frozen lake. It brought to mind a stunning piece of glass on display in my studio. This piece of glass, along with the varied colors of smalti, was an ideal representation of the sky in that moment. The frozen lake reflects the beauty of the sky, and both are mirrored in the glass. Winter Reflections is my attempt to take a fleeting memory of beauty and capture it for the present.
