Colored glass, glue on wood, translucent grout

I had been painter for over 25 years before I discovered glass. It was while teaching high school stained glass class that I started playing with all the extra glass shards the kids threw in the garbage because I just couldn't bear to throw them away. I started gluing the pieces down in the shapes of fur and eyes but not in the traditional mosaic manner since I had no experience in that world; I used my painting methods of color theory to decide what piece went where. Through trial and error (and lots of cut fingers), I started to create animals that were "painted" with recycled garbage glass that depicted colorful versions of reality. Glass art has seeped into my painter's soul as I continue to explore how to use this medium in new ways not usually seen.
