Black Rods
3D Stained glass sculpture - Non functional.
Materials - Stained glass, copper foil, solder, glass rods.
Designed and handmade by me, using the copper foil method. I made the two sides first, so the design and desired textures were facing out, for each side.
I then added the bottom and the side strips, one at a time, to build up and add strength to the sculpture. I designed this piece specifically, so I could incorporate glass rods in the structure while featuring them at the same time. I enjoyed the challenge of adding the side strips to the open rods.

Artist Statement
One of the most exhilarating parts of my artistic journey is the challenge of constantly pushing myself to come up with new and innovative ideas, and then bringing them to life through my designs.
My stained glass art is a reflection of my passion for creativity, my love for the artistic process, and my eagerness to explore and experiment with various elements. Through my work, I aim to create interest, inspire curiosity, and share the joy of artistic expression with others.
I've made 12 large 3D sculptures. Because they are freestanding, they look beautiful in any setting and from any angle.
In this 3D stained glass sculpture, I chose to use black and clear textured glass. Instead of using flat glass throughout, I opted for a different approach of supporting the stained glass piece with glass rods, creating an airy and dynamic effect. When viewed from different angles, a fun checkered pattern emerges, with the vertical rods intersecting the horizontal side strips. A single sheet of glass for the side strips was used so the Baroque swirls are continuous. The top of the piece is finished with rolled edges of glass to give it a free flowing, organic appeal.
