Stained glass, hand made ceramic tiles, unglazed porcelain, filati

I often choose animals as subjects for my mosaics. I try to capture their personality through the careful selection, cutting and placement of each piece.
For my American Bison, I wanted to portray not only its form and fur, but its quiet gaze as well.

In the past couple of years, I started making my own ceramic tiles. By creating my own textures and using different glaze combinations I found I had access to a much wider palette than previously possible, and, I’m not gonna lie, I love the added control.

The title of the piece is from the song “Buffalo Gals”, and if it’s in your head right now, you’re welcome.
